The Aspects are the mathematical degrees or patterns that the planets create with one another in the cosmos.  The planets are constantly moving in relation to one another and therefore creating new dynamics with their energies.  There is a cycle to this process called the ‘synodic cycle” that allows the planets to work through a series of “relationships” with one another that affect your learning and how you navigate your life path.  Some of the Aspects are very harmonious and allow the planets to assist, support and help one another.  And some of the Aspects are challenging bringing up issues and experiences that we need to go through to learn things outside of ourselves. I see it as a cosmic dance; the planets change partners, stay in certain movements and also break out when it is necessary, and this whole dance is the story of our learning.  We will be focussing on the 6 major Aspects in Level Three and these are the Conjunction, Sextile, Square, Trine, Quincunx and Opposition.  These are the main Aspects most Astrologers use to read a Chart and really show us how we can progress and use the strengths of each planet and each sign of the zodiac to not only learn our life lessons, but to also understand more about ourselves, why we act the way we do and why we react the way we do as well.  The Aspects are the details of the story; the insight into why things are the way they are and so they give us the missing pieces of our jigsaw puzzle and enable us to more easily understand all that we have chosen to learn in this lifetime as well as all the gifts, talents and power that we bring in with us.

Forecast Your Year Ahead with Solar Returns

The Solar Return is when the Sun returns to the exact spot in the sky that it was at the time you were born and therefore it dictates your year ahead.  When you cast a Solar Return Chart you can see, in advance, what your year is going to be about; what challenges you will be facing, what talents you will be using, whether you will be travelling or focussing on your career, how your relationships will evolve as well as health, home, money and all the other issues we work with in any 12-month period.  So, a Solar Return Chart is a predictive Chart aimed at your year ahead from your birthday one year until your birthday the following year, the Solar Return is NOT based on the calendar year (unless you were born on 1 January of course).  My teacher, the amazing Margaret McElroy, always used to say about Solar Returns, “forewarned is forearmed” and this is so true.  My teacher also used to travel all over the world at the time of her birthday to make sure the planets were sitting where she wanted them to sit in her Chart to enable her to make the most of any given Solar Year.  This is possible because WHERE you spend your birthday each year dictates your year ahead.
